Introduction to the Alexander Technique
Using simple and fun activities, you’ll learn about your automatic patterns that interfere with movement. You’ll start to explore how to change unwanted postural habits for the better. There will be an opportunity to learn how to let go of tension when sitting comfortably in a supported way. The session also introduces ways to help you bring the Alexander Technique in your day to day activities to help you to live with more ease and calm.
Rediscovering natural balance and poise
In this session, you learn how the Alexander Technique can help you to rediscover natural balance and ease of movement to reduce pain and strain. You learn how to let your head balance naturally on your spine without forcing or holding it in place. When our head tips forward, it throws us out of balance and makes it more difficult to move with ease. When we pin our shoulders back and hold our posture in an upright position, we use more tension than we need, which in turn makes our body tight and stiff. We learn to use just the right amount of muscular effort for our body to remain balanced, reducing pain and strain.
Improving balance, coordination and ease of movement
You’ll explore how to use the hip, knee and ankle joints as nature intended, making movement feel easier and more fluid. You learn how to let go of tension in your neck, shoulders, back, pelvis, hips, legs and feet. Releasing tension in these areas can help to relieve pain and strain and improve ease of movement.
Using our hands and arms effectively to reduce pain and strain
You learn to let go of excess tension in your shoulders, arms and wrists and discover how to connect your arms more effectively into your body, so you can use your shoulders, arms and arms with less effort and strain.
Bringing the Alexander Technique into daily life
To get the most out of Alexander Technique training, we learn to apply it to everything we do… when walking, sitting, standing moving, lying in bed, lifting, carrying and living our lives.
