Lessons in the Alexander Technique can improve postural muscle tone, coordination, balance and flexibility. This can be beneficial to people with Parkinson’s disease. One study of individuals with Parkinson’s disease demonstrated that 24 lessons in the Alexander Technique led to improvements in balance, posture and walking, as well as reduced stress and an increased ability to carry out daily activities. The benefits remained when participants were assessed 6 months after the trial.

As a result of these findings, Alexander Technique lessons are included in the UK National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidelines for people with Parkinson’s disease to help them to make lifestyle adjustments.
